PRODUCTION - CINEMATOGRAPHY

Updated: Aug 31, 2020

The cinematography was done by Waka. We wanted to go for a dark, ominous tone with the sunset. We hoped for a setting sun tone to show the beginning of night, of which the rest of the film will be set in. Our inspirations were from various films, including 'Reservoir Dogs' and 'In Bruges'. We wanted a construction site to represent the bad thugs, the grimy and unpleasing backdrop.

I also wanted the harbour and sun to be seen to personify Olivia, the clean and natural world. She represents the return to normality and the thugs represent the obstacle.

I had many inspirations for the opening, namely thriller action films like 'In Bruges' and 'Reservoir Dogs'.

I wanted the shots to be simplistic and easy to understand, especially the fight scene. I wanted kicks, punches and action to be easy to understand. Keeping the action in the centre of the frame gives little confusion as to what's going on and where everything is, guns etc.

The final car conversation was filmed in close up to introduce the two characters visually. I wanted there to be a connection between them which is why the mirror shot was used.

The final shot, craning up was done to show them entering the city and going into the belly of the beast.
